Project Description
The Foothills Parkway project consisted of constructing two cast-in-place segmental bridges on the closed section of the Foothills Parkway. The Foothills Parkway is a scenic highway in eastern Tennessee near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The owner of the project is the National Park Service. Construction of the project was managed by the Federal Highway Administration for the National Park Service. Each bridge consists of three spans with a total length of 143 meters. The abutments and footings are cast-in-place concrete with the columns being precast segmental. The columns range in height from fifty to one hundred feet tall. The superstructure was constructed utilizing form travelers. Bridge 10 was constructed utilizing a 100-ton crawler crane while bridge 9 was constructed from the top down using a stiff leg derrick and a 100-ton crawler crane.
